Peter grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, In high school, he set the 800M state private high school record in 1:55.5, Peter ran Division 1 Track and Cross Country at Marquette University. Here he notched PR’s of 1:51.3 in the 800M, 3:51.3 in the 1500M, and 15:12 in the 5K. Since then, he stayed active in running, and has dabbled in marathons, triathlons, century+ bike rides, open water swims, sky diving, epic hikes, and among his favorites - Ultimate Frisbee. In 2017, he returned to his track roots, focusing on his best events - the 800M to the Mile. While age has slowed him, he takes solace that his age-graded performances are comparable to what he ran in college. His daily runs are an essential part of his life and well being, but he also enjoys pushing his limits.
Since 1999, he’s been a Senior Scientist at the National Institute of Mental Health. His research lab develops and uses functional MRI (fMRI), a method he has been advancing since 1991 to image human brain function non-invasively. He lives in Bethesda with his wife, Patricia, and thee boys, Connor, Lucas, and Eric.
Peter's 40+ years of racing and training has given him practical experience and a degree of insight into what's important in running success. While he enjoys delving into performance metrics and trying new approaches, he also understands the profound influence of mindset.
